Great Book for Starting an Etsy Store Business

I think this is the first Idiots Guide I’ve ever read. The Complete Guide to Selling Your Crafts on Etsy by Marcia Layton Turner was really well done.

I started an Etsy store over a year ago, after a friend of mine told me about it. I quickly created an account and put on two of my abstract photography prints - I was so happy to have my work up. Now the selling would begin, right? But nothing happened.

And soon I had the listing bill. Not a bad bill, but then after awhile they expired with no one even looking at them. I put in tags, description and anything else I could think of. Next I lowered my prices. I looked at other stores and photographers. I tried to do good terms of service and shipping info. But still nothing.

Then one night late I was on the library website and I found a book that might help.

I think this is the first Idiots Guide I’ve ever read. The Complete Guide to Selling Your Crafts on Etsy by Marcia Layton Turner was really well done. I learned a lot. It was a fun read for me. I have had a store for awhile and have not had much luck, yet I have two friends that make a living off Etsy.

What was I missing? What did I do wrong? Where to even start? The Complete Guide to Selling Your Crafts on Etsy walks you through these questions and more, providing easy to understand answers. I hope to put them into practice this coming month.

One of the biggest things I hope to change is having more products on Etsy. The book suggests having around 100 items at all times to help with searches. That’s going to take awhile but it’s something that makes sense. You’re not really selling if you only have a few items.

Another thing I’ve done is downloaded an app to help track my Etsy account. It’s called GoDaddy Bookkeeping. It’s a simple app which tells me income, loss, expense, and accounts totals. It updates weekly with several over view options. I have found this to be an excellent tool to manage my Etsy account.

Taking advantage of the Shop Announcement area could increase your traffic . This is a real benefit to Etsy members that many new comers aren’t initially aware of – including me! The Shop Title is another area I could make use of to further your seo and bring in more traffic.

Etsy has a blog area that I have now looked at and have found many helpful tips. Plus they have success story’s. My favorite one is “Quit Your Day Job”. I think it’s a weekly event. They tell a new story about someone that has left their job, or is making a living on Etsy.

The Complete Guide to Selling Your Crafts on Etsy goes over, Circles, Treasury, Teams. Do you know what they are? I didn’t. Now you’ll have to read the book. To find out.

The Complete Guide to Selling Your Crafts on Etsy covers why you should sell on Etsy to who has done well and how.  It discusses the importance of pricing and listing with good copy and photography, and covers how to market and get traffic through social media and other outlets.

Finally, it walks you through what you should do when you do get a client and how you can best serve them so they will become a repeat customer.

This book has a lot of links and goes over so many things, I know I’m not doing it justice but hopefully I have gotten you interested.
